Each year, the German Society of Neuroradiology (DGNR) hosts its annual meeting neuRAD, bringing together the neuroradiology community for clinical, scientific and technological exchange. The 2026 meeting took place from 7 to 9 October in Mainz.

Besides the main affiliation with the Department of Neuroradiology, it is also affiliated with the Department of Epileptology. Therefore, neuRAD offered a great opportunity to bring these two perspectives together and to represent the interdisciplinary work of the translational neuroimaging lab.

Our PhD students Annalena Lange and Jana Oswald-Hennemann represented the lab at the predominantly clinically oriented conference. With their different scientific backgrounds, they helped bridging methodological and computational research with clinical imaging and questions arising from epilepsy care. Both contributed to the session on Epilepsy. Annalena was invited to provide a technical perspective, speaking about big-data analyses and vision-language models and their potential to for extracting clinically meaningful information from increasingly complex imaging data.

Jana presented work on behalf of our deputy group leader Tobias Bauer, focusing on our research with portable ultra-low-field-MRI and its potential to support seizure localization.

Beyond the talks, the three days in Mainz offered plenty of opportunities for scientific exchange with both familiar and new faces, discussions across disciplinary boundaries and new perspectives on current developments in neuroradiology. And, of course, no conference experience would be complete with a generous amount of good food and coffee.

neuRAD 2026 was a valuable opportunity to represent both sides of our lab and to contribute to the dialogue between computational epilepsy research and clinical neuroradiology.
